He starts with the shiny object syndrome describing it as the drive of a child to jump from object to object when playing in the sun and creates the theory that this was the drive of success for social media, to turn Twitch and Tinder into social media.
Well, that is a tiny bit off, in my opinion. True is that we have a natural discovery drive which enables us to find new things and is base for our ability to create technology. If the child only jumps on after having analysed the object and understood it, from broken glass that is dangerous only if you step on it with weight, but hardly cuts fingers, to glass from a window that does cut fingers understanding that the green one was from a beer bottle it knows from the fridge, to another object that is plastic and has two surfaces one painted, it is in good development. If a child is only interested in finding a valuable object knowing that those shine...it might end up as a Troll letting out his miserey in bad comments against those he hates; Which does help to feel better...
Social media is actually Facebook and not Twitch. Netflix is understandably no social media even so you find a reason to socialize. Facebook was designed based on the Year book of a University having one of the most powerful resources hardly used, which is the Alumni and resulting humans all being heads of society. A software to connect them does make sence.
To put videos on it and by that figure out if you share the same interests does make even more sence.
The reason why the success of Facebook is in the Netflix part, is because our Western society is anti-social. There is no need to pay for good ideas having made millions by it, even so the idea was stolen using secret service levels of surveillance, or your buddy told you one night out. Actually, thieves hijacked our society after given amnesty from the Holocaust in an underground war until the 60ies.
