If you give such an modern glider a double jet engine upgrade, which are available yet designed for take off, it can be both a silent higher altitude surveillane plane using the constant desert upwinds and a rather fast getaway plane even capable of droping smaller bombs by a dive attack, while fast small hovercrafts are easier in maintenance and way faster than pick ups. They just cant fire heavy anti-aircraft guns, but are perfect to be used as assault vehicles or to be fast offroad carrying light loads.
