It is called text block values. There are in the pen and paper table top game literature one person adventures out. Usually, adventure books for these character playing games are giving a game master win combination with the source rule book everything he needs to start a game session that can well last for several days with his group of players.
There are also some books out that can be played solo without a master or group. They are decision based and lead the single player from text block to text black based on his decisions and luck or misfortune in the game campaigne.
AI could row up from a database of text blocks to build a book and the AI supporting author only had to give a story line based on the heros dying, falling in love, meeting a rival, going to hospital himself or in an ambulance, being gay or straight, rich and poor, if the database would be just feeded with text blocks are qulified with limited folow up text blocks based on the book designers set story line.
If the book designer sets that the male here is poor only text blooks with an e.g. XML tag of "<male hero> <poor> would be selected from there on and all text blocks <rich hero> <female> would be deselcted. Than there are logic story lines must. They have to meet in order to fall in love, someone has to die or be declared dead to have real funeral and so on.
Someone, funny Indians sick of a call center job maybe, basically go through some existing literature and cut out enclosed text blocks that represent a scene of the book to qulify them and feed a database. Over time, if the database is adjsuted, ..... you will perfect flows of story based on:
<introduction> <rich people> <sea side> <urban metropolis>
<rich hero> <male> <young> <party scene>
<waitress> <small town origin>
<meeting>
<drama level 7/10> <all boys out> <competetive rivals> <fast cars>
<drug use level 5/10> <death level 10/10 GoT> <love of firsit sight level 1/10>
<first kiss>
<drama level 7/10>
....and so on....
