The interesting part is that it does not make sence that they are higher evolved than us or technologically superior. Having slaves covered and not openly was throughout all history a signe of weakness of the slave owner. They always preferd to have the slave know his status.
So, what if there were alians among us, but they got kicked out from their homeplanet being too weak and instead of killed they have been expelled to this planet. Here they got stuck.
