It does not matter, if these soldiers are realy Russians or considerig the overall situation actualy more likely Russian speaking Ukrainian soldiers, if that is clean Russian.
It shows in both ways outdated war strategies created by Germans loosing practically having command in this operation, which would also explaine why US support beyond financial aid is limited and in opposite to German politicians some US once openly state they won't help the EU in a direct confrontation. American military does not fight like that. None. No US General is involved here, certainly.
In a proper military force only those advance that are able to retreat on their own, while Germans await orders that need to be clear and precise just like their signs in urban traffic and the Arc de Triomph being their real existing nightmare. As a matter of fact, they expect, in both ways if the media is correct about the Russian Stalinist military leadeship style or Germans runnig the Ukrainian side, massive punishement if retreating from their position without direct clear order. Satalinists were fashists, the Germans are just worse.
Beside, they do not know how to get out of a mud whole having had lousy training comperable to WW1 levels.
Do remember from those American movies you laugh at those scenes in which the GIs crawl below barb wire for stretches as long as a hundred meters? Now add night time, ideally a clouded night and the direction of your command....
