This unit is the right move and the US military needs to scale up that form of Special Forces. To believe they are needed, because wide scale military operations are coming, is a dangerous misconception of the current situation defining the future and leathel ignorance of the domestic enemy we need to fight more and more not only in Senat hearings and Gang Wars, but by military means.
This unit is an Advanced Reconnessaince unit that uses way more information technolgy adding to the proven concepts of hide and seak in the U.S. military than any other group before; And they are only a first step. Along with drones they need silent drones and local portable reliable computer power to be able to perform software based analytics on the mission even being cut off from the operational headquarters.
This is needed to continue the fight of precision intelligence based warfare that was tremendously successful in both the War against Drugs and the War against Terror into an ever more complex becoming world that will see battles like those of BOPE in Brazils Favelas yet in even populated city centers all around the world forigne and domestic against enemies to the most important American value: Freedom, which every people and individual may define for himself to be protected against those limiting others Freedom.
In these coming wars the enemy will be hard to be told from a friend way off classic definitions as nationality or even criminal record and units as such capable of clearing chaos into understandable and explainable complexity are needed to win against Terror and Drugs joining to create sadistic rule over groups, towns, regions and even nations.
On top of all low and high tech systems the soldiers will need even more have a wide spectrum based on a trust worthy good character stretching over all parts of intelligence creating the need in the forces to attract the very best of humans to join service.
These wars will see more Sergent Majors and General Majors next and with the classic military ranks than even the Civil War as it must be fought by the best capable of making their own independent free decisions backed by trust of their superiors and comandets.
