That derives from not making fire on Shabbat and is an interpretation of a rule from the Thora that also could be interpreted as not to make fire in any hearts, excluding electric circuits, but including his little asshole buddy.
So, I was on that Israel trip and walking through Jerusalem on a Shabbat an alarm was ringing, but also on the way back.
Someone was not allowed to turn it off so I shouted, if any object hitting the clock stopping the alarm missing the switch.... to hear a cracking sound of what must have been an entire table or little cupboard and before I figured to which heads the two yelling voices of young and old....I walked off.
