My version :
The Cathedral of Cologne is among the most impressive European buildings by being build in several phases over generations using latest technologies in architecture and manufacturing by all parts of European society in collaborative shared responsibility and effort, therefore representing European values of the opposite of the Colosseum, Egyptian Pyramids and KZ creations like only a few others.
Today nobody knows how many local and foreign hands have helped, but the sheer size and needed effort suggests that it was humans from near and far close to one of Europe's most important trade routes.
