Rivers are big natural pipes that transport surplus water to the sea. They are ecosystems that were turned from the late 60ies on into actual pipes. That back then already made no sense, because the increase of cargo over rivers was predictably becoming less, except you understand that the same characters with just less power who had build a KZ system were in charge again.
A chanel is so much more inline than an ever changing river.
Of course it makes sense to turn parts of rivers into channels, such as exactly the part the Triathletes swam in, but no European river has anymore our historic shape.
Their answer will be again more major work by gigantic costintensive corporate action... making a mistake worse.
Instead Paris and other towns need to increase modern river parks that bring plants and recreational space into the rivers in cities, breed fish and put them out, build more natural water cleaning installations using ponts with different vegetation that also educate on the ecosystems water cycle. We natives need Information, Primates education.
Outside of towns everyone quickly can find flood areas that will become more often flooded. In such zones housing needs to be either given up completely or rebuild to let the water flow and rest for major parts of the year with active plantation of water accepting plants increaseing eco diversity beyond the chillwater pont of a nuclear power plant.
We either take our way of life back from all medicated, all dominating aliens to our European values or nature kills us...
