If that ritual of physical conflict was adjusted to a more training like situation in which sparring is done infront of the group, after a training session overwatched, by volunteers challenging each other, the groups social structure would be created with less negative side effects negative to hierarchical systems in need of an Alpha or Primus, but with positive side effects.
