The difference to other styles of warfare is that locals with superior local geographic knowledge fight an alien enemy.
The numbers don't matter and most don't understand that.
Even the best Recon Unit will not know an area as good as some that grew up there playing, string, driving, camping over about two and more decades. And an entire devision can have to watch it's General die in an IED attack incapable of resistance.
The trick is to use that advantage to the fullest.
How to hide where and move around unseen and in-between and right infront. What are perfect ambush spots. How to get there. What are best IED spots and how to prepare those and how to get them there. What do they not know about where they took position by which likelyhood. Which nick names can be given only locals or close locals understand. Which signs can be used on which places leaving a message to other locals.
