You need to have all locals build town walls coordinated by Fire Fighters and local Social Clubs or they come during Church Service at some point.
The simpliest are closing all windows to the outside of a village and only building walls at gaps. Then you need to digg trenches best filled with water and have feather animals in-between listening to them getting mad when unknowns cross. The next stretch is a barb wire fence and again a trench to have all fields directly around civilian estate deep plowed for several hundred meters and refuglarely heavily watered.
Park the cars outside on the road and the trunks filled with minimum clothing and some water. Enter the car and ride fast, but save out of the village by a secure gate and have more than two with a clear goal to get to. The hard part is that you can only stop to help others in the break out convoy when you can aim to kill and move against the attackers in confidence.
