Rivers can only be crossed by using a bridge. Not all bridges have enough space for a car or a ramp to access.
Depending on the starting point and the set target a fine bicycle might be better opening more bridges as an option, but that needs training and patience.
Driving to fast will make you never arrive and road blocks might lead into an execution depending on who you are and who blocks the road.
Road blocks are check points and build by a group to control trespassers.
