Computers are since the first IBM Compatible 286 AT pretty much the same design. The CPU becomeing faster is happening by the same way a Desktop and Mobile Phone can be equally fast.
It is called miniaturisation and means that circuits are produced smaller and thereby more fit onto a square inch.
