The problem is the very tempting to execute nuclear option of a Hiroshima size bomb to take down an entire NATO Army, or Russian equivalent, exactly as WW3 would have ended in a direct confrontation with the Sowjets.
The only way to avoid the nuclear escalation would be by aggravating the conflict taking away the tactical nuclear option by creating several main battlegrounds instead of searching for one decision battle triggering one nuclear strike resulting in counter strikes to be also countered.
That means, that if a NATO Devision enters the Ukraine scene, Russia might for well counter attack by all it's might.
That would be:
Massive Mid-Range Missile attacks against Western and Central Europe.
Air strikes against all kind of targets by first supersonic jets and than the bomber fleet.
The Russian Navy entering the North Atlantic attacking the British and German fleet.
The Russian Submarine fleet going into Atlantic launch positions against U.S. targets. Thats nuclear warheads...
The Chinese fleet entering the Pacific combined with the Russian Pacific fleet.
And all Russian Army forces entering the war in several points such as at Murmansk towards Scandinavia, Romania by Odessa and Slovakia with Turkey possibly swapping sides.
....Except Trump cancles U.S. troops for the biggest massmurder by stupidity since Hitler...
