Russia has several options. One is bringing in small hunter Submarines through the Street of Gibraltar attacking which NATO ships ever caused those incidents riscking an escalation as being again the aggressor. They can negotiate with all Arab nations contracts for Navy bases and rest unguarded trespassing through the Mediterranean until then or bypass the area entirely by derouting further north and south.
The southern route is in particular interesting, because it would tighten ties to Iran and create a stronger footprint in Africa by using Chinese build harbours to build rail tracks crossing into the continent to deal with container ship level of cargo loads cost efficiently.
That way NATO would have more targets to sabotage and a way harder job to identify and operate than in a classic Naval confrontation as currently it appears to be provoked, being stupid continuously.
