Just as in Poetry, that does not mean the title scorer did understand one single word.
Mathematics has applications. Entertainment is not its greatest, yet these two have major positions within the Mathematical Scientific Field. Mathematics needs thorough understanding or all will be sorrow that try to use mathematics for gain.
They do not compete by telling each other which known formula is applied for what, like what you do with Pytagoras or Einstein.
They test if they can concentrate or entertain...I guess.
