I think this is as left as it gets in respectable terms within the U.S.A. That's very liberal over here.
It is not about loyalty.
This is about a deeply routed fear within the part of U.S. American society especially Hegseth derives from. First of all, this is what Soldiers realy do instead of killing for a living:
All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honour, duty, mercy, hope
A Soldiers life is created around Spartan ideas, in especially the U.S. military and those alike. The soldiers are enlisting and not forced to serve and come to an environment in which these values of freedom, justice, honour, duty, mercy, hope are way higher valued and everyday lived as in the civilian society.
Their quarters are simple and functional, they are addressed in a clear manner and all actions, reactions and consequences are told, explained and lived by their commanding Officers.
There are no double standards and if they will and can be addressed with fair appropriate consequences.
Politics are the very opposite and a constant checking of balances. No soldier is constantly defending, but in opposite must be able to understand an atmosphere having situational awareness to kill and not murder.
Training is not about killing, the killing is only a part of the survival training in combat situations of which military life is only a fraction as much as active duty frontline soldiers are only a small fraction of the entire force that all live these values: freedom, justice, honour, duty, mercy, hope.
I wonder, if Mr Hegseth fears about entirely loosing those in his life and therefore America.
If so, he must find a way to embedden these values deeper into society. First in close combat and from there in areas far away behind foreign to him boarders.
America was fighting for these values since two world wars and might have lost this path considering world wide rethorics against America, which are understandable if on knows the two Americas. KKK and Dr King, to name the extreme opposites in between America today is caught today. Mr Trump might have been voted, because across the entire spectrum of Americans these values are missed that are in my opinion the core of the United States of America and its people while Hollywood shows us murder and Cocaine use, but censors breastfeeding of a new born and the sounds of a baby having a full stomach.
