I think they are scared. Hitler used the word "ausradieren" (to erase, coming from the German word for a Rubber) against the Jews and everyone they owed money, basically. The Blitzkrieg like analogy of a sudden hit supports my impression.
The trouble they might collectively have, is that they all hide behind the system, which is their new Orders, in case of trouble avoiding personal responsibility having something the individual cannot attack, like Stauffenberg and his Crew with an IED, giving them the delusion of being in an ideal hide out of what is in reality very fake security.
The AI is something even worse. Americans own it and it comes through the Cloud. Facing a virtual enemy without a body must be really annoying for someone of that Mind Set coming from those that were the reason of their defeat in the last war.
