I just created the ultimate one. Imagine someone, an early hacker calling himself Singularity, that strode through Usenet Servers and IRC Chat Rooms understood that the CIA had a wing known as the Firm and that they took slaves by finding successful individuals.
The hacker decided hiding.
By using only tools like emails, postal services and telephone he founded IT companies hiding his real name by identity fraud and building over national boarders using different jurisdictions to his advantage to be hiding.
Imagine that some of the biggest companies were build like that and the The Firm decided to build a public facade to catch that Hacker.

Think of Castle in the mid ages. You can even enter the Castle, you can eat in the restaurant and sneak into all rooms you can find. Only some doors are locked and there are guards that question you having orders.
You start telling everyone that you were the builder and ruler, having found no second that says so. Nobody ever saw who had build the Castle even so it was a busy in trade and life place. Word got around and when someone approached you with a great idea that idea was even turned into action, but you gave no order.
Sometimes you tried to enter a room by breaking a door. The Guards arrived and when telling them to back up they all said that you gave them order and that they understand this was no test. They were proud to have not failed their your orders in times The Singularity was near.
