They stand no chance. Their politics, as soon as in charge, will be reestablishing the old grid, reinforcing the old system. The old system had core design flaws like central power plants that transport electricity over large distances with huge losses in need of a minimum electricity level. On top were windmills as badly designed build. The most heavy component is not in the socket or base, but lifted onto the wings holding pillar.
No matter who will get in charge of the Germans, no one of them will be able to accept a complex system in any aspect and the electric grid is just one of those. Germans have an autistic level of need for simple structures accepting incredible problems and failures to avoid complexity.
The simplest of all complex systems is pure chaos to their minds.
That's why they fall short to understand the radioactive waste problem still unsolved and prefer to just ignore it. They fall short of the importance of coal as a source material for high tech materials and its problems when used as a fuel. They refuse to localize the grid and implement an as local sensor net.
They see thousands of acres and villages that are producing different forms of ethanol and bio-diesels. Hundred thousands of little solar and wind mill energy companies that use rooftops and different ways of energy storage. They see changes in town layouts that bring work and living closer together without disturbing each other. They see dozens of different sound and heat insulation systems ... and shake their head only acknowledging that they cannot control and surveil that, that they would be doomed to start investigating after an accident happened to then be failing to inform the public about the root causes in a system in which Police believes they get respect by intimidation and fear and not their tone and actions and the rest keeps lying when ever possible. For them a vision is a delusion as much as the better is their enemy believing they were the good and not the most ignorant arrogant.
