Economic Unity

In general production needs to be close to the customer.

That is not true anymore or needs refinement.

Before the age of machines the size of towns was limited by how well the surrounding rural areas were tied to the city to deliver food and processed source materials while in return all waste was brought out.
Human and Horse excrement is in town a source for disease and in the surrounding rural areas fertilizer.
Wheat needs a Mill to be turned into Flour which again needs a Bakery to be turned into Bread. The horse pulled van limits the distances between field, mill, bakery and point of sale and thereby the size of towns.

With automobile vehicles and machines we do not quadruple that, we are multiplying by factors of 1.000 or even 10.000.

Information held in physical books back than, reached today even more impressive numbers not only in distance, but by also copies being made by being calculated in split seconds.

In general production needs to be at the most efficient place.

That is the true refined statement.

In digital age plenty of factors play a role for efficient production. Energy availability, work force capability, logistics access, source material access and each has important subcategories like carbon emission and pollution foot print, infrastructure stress and wear-out, cost of living and finally laws and contracts. Just quality as importance did not change. Just like power is nothing without control, quantity is nothing without quality.

The trick for unity is to simplify all those parts that can be simplified, increase efficiency on all those parts that can be improved and turn what is good into even better instead of focusing on differences, bad or broken parts hard to be fixed based first on what is possible with a quick return of investment: Time, Effort, Stress all for Quality.

You can have only two out of the three: Cheap, Fast, Good.

Aka: What makes you happy.
