The Good Friday Agreement is Military Law and above EU Law. As much as the FRG cannot rule against any contract the Allies made among themselves the EU cannot overrule the Good Friday Agreement with any of the two Parliaments.
I do think many in the EU need some time back in school on international reality as a reality check from too much time high above in somewhere, before it becomes anywhere.
Instead of fighting any of the two boarders, which in a nasty way means to accept one boarder, the British Islands have to come together much closer.

Instead of wasting time against the mutual agreement that neither Catholic nor Anglican communities may face a boarder towards Cork or Manchester, each side must work on geographic unity.
The Sea is a bigger hurdle than grass land is as clear as crossing from Ulster to the Republic is an act of convenience and every ferry ride one of excitement, by the lack of check points for the militant among us.

PS: No boarders means freedom. That is nice, but freedom with cash at hand is much better. Prosperity is possible only peace, conflict and dispute is for sacrifice.
