The Abrams has a Gasturbine, that is not repaired, but exchanged using a crane because:
Abrams (Gas Turbine): Features fewer moving parts than a piston engine, making it mechanically reliable at its core. However, it is highly sensitive to microscopic dust and sand, demanding intense and frequent cleaning and maintenance of its air-filtration systems.
Abrams Field Swap: Field mechanics cannot easily repair a damaged turbine on a muddy battlefield. Instead, the entire powerpack is lifted out in one piece via a heavy crane and swapped for a fresh unit, while the broken turbine is shipped back to a specialized depot.
Abrams (Honeywell AGT1500): Weighs roughly 1,134 kg (2,500 lbs).Power per kilo: ~1.32 hp/kg (1.32 horsepower per kilogram of engine mass).
Leopard 2 (MTU MB 873 Ka-501): Weighs roughly 2,590 kg (5,710 lbs) (engine block alone, excluding full cooling/transmission assembly).Power per kilo: ~0.58 hp/kg (0.58 horsepower per kilogram of engine mass).
So, you get all oiled up creating a biohazard having an iron chunk sitting while Americans use a forklifter to swap a power house - clean.
That simple. U.S. Military Logistics.
The Germans keep stressing the fuel consumption on their journey to find weakness. The point is that a few things are pretty irrelevant in the military. Ammunition is another one, given that the war is based on a functional supply line and thorough planning.
The U.S. military is created on winning wars based on superior fighting power. Conquering the World is not any point, neither plundering or attacking civilians. Thereby U.S. heavy tanks are used differently than in the German past of military warfare which still shape both forces.
U.S. tanks come with a carry trailer, fuel tanker and truck, German tanks with Grenadiers. Their Maintenance Crew is part of the Tanker Crew and so is the ammunition supply convoy. Securing the line towards the Tanks from the Depot is as important as where to build up the tank force, which is why they are still called Cavalry and their strategies and tactics date back to the Track West, which was under regular heavy attacks of Native Americans and European Bandits.
They won't drive a stretch of several thousand kilometers. They will be offloaded before a battle ground that was prepared by Cruise Missiles, Air Force bombings and is under over watch by Army Reconnaissance Units to enter combined with Infantry soldiers searching to kill until surrender military hostile unites. They will pass by most villages without entering.
