The Niger Delta was breathing its wet breath across the hull.

Captain Juma Kaelen stood on the bridge, watching the phosphorescence churn in the black water. Fifty meters away, the *Spirit of the Archipelago*—a seventy-meter mothership—sat at anchor, her deck lights blazing. Cranes swung containers onto her wide deck while Zodiacs ferried pallets from the shore.

Trade. Legitimate trade. Fair trade.

The Cyberdeck chimed.

Kaelen turned. The AI's voice was calm, synthesized feminine, with just a hint of an accent no one had ever been able to place. He called her *Triton*.
